Update from Le Masurier: Recent developments on the Le Sablons site
We wanted to share the latest news regarding our appeal for the Les Sablons site. We understand that many of you may have seen our appeal has unfortunately been rejected by the Assistant Environment Minister, despite the independent inspectors overwhelming recommendation for approval. Our £120m plan to regenerate St Helier and cater for the Island’s needs was rejected by the Planning Committee in December 2022- a decision we felt we had to appeal. We now find ourselves in the same position. This decision, despite having support from the industry, local businesses, business leaders, and the public, has led us to take an appeal to the Royal Court.
Our Managing Director, Brian McCarthy, emphasises the significance of this scheme: "We believe it's worth fighting for, offering substantial regeneration for over 2.5 acres of the town centre. While an appeal wasn't our initial choice, it's now our only option."
We are confident in the merits of our case. If approved, this development could generate 150 full-time jobs, address housing shortages, and boost tourism—all with no cost to the taxpayer. Learn more about the details on our website, where we've provided news articles for further insight.
Despite the challenges, we remain optimistic about the future. Our commitment to the island's regeneration and positive change drives us forward. We appreciate your continued support on this journey.
