How Life Has Changed in the Middle East Over 58 Years 🤓 Short Film Showcase

Colbert Held is a former United States Foreign Service officer who has amassed a photo collection spanning 48 years and 17 countries. He did so to have a detailed, photographic record of all the landscapes he visited, a complete geographical archive of his own. What's particular about his collection is that it captured the Middle Eastern history that escaped documentation.

Viewed now, photographs from the past reveal an evolution from an "older" way of living to modernity - or a look back to better times pulverized by current wars. Filmed by Jennifer Smart in collaboration with the Middle East Institute, this short documentary was inspired by Baylor University's Oral Memoirs of Colbert Colgate "Cokie" Held.

Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (arabic: ‫المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية‬‎) is an Arab country in the Levant region of Western Asia, on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Jordan is 🚧 bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and the east, Iraq to the north-east, Syria to the north, and Israel and Palestine (West Bank) to the west.

The Dead Sea is located along its western borders and the country has a 26-kilometre (16 mi) coastline on the Red Sea in its extreme south-west. Jordan is strategically located at the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe. The capital is Jordan's most populous city as well as the country's economic, political and cultural centre.

King Fahad National Library by Ge**er Architekten in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, completed in 2013.

The project sees Professor Eckhard Ge**er and his Ge**er Architekten team accomplishing one of the most important urban development and cultural projects in the capital, .

The key element of the façade was developed especially for the new building. It is a cladding made up of rhomboid textile awnings, marked by its play with revealing and concealing. Inserted white membranes, supported by a three-dimensional, tensile-stressed steel cable structure, act as sunshades and interpret the Arabian tent structure tradition in a modern, technological way.

The PEARL 🇶🇦 QATAR, Doha

The Pearl-Qatar ( اللؤلؤة قطر‎ ) in Doha, Qatar, is an artificial island spanning nearly four square kilometers. It is the first land in Qatar to be available for freehold ownership by foreign nationals. As of January 2015, there are 12,000 residents.

Once fully completed, The Pearl will create over 32 kilometers of new coastline, for use as a residential estate with an expected 18,831 dwellings and 45,000 residents by 2018. Developed by United Development Company and planned by architecture and design firm Callison, the island is located 350 meters offshore of Doha's West Bay Lagoon area.

In 2004, when the project was first revealed, the initial cost of constructing the island stood at $2.5 billion. It is now believed the project will cost $15 billion upon completion.
