Today is Jyugoya (十五夜）in Japan - the day of the full moon in September.
Traditionally, Jyugoya is celebrated by moon-gazing and eating white tsukimi dango (rice sweets made into white balls to look like the moon). It is a time to offer thanks for a bountiful harvest and good fortune.
This year, autumn has not yet come to Japan as most of the country is still sweltering under a late summer heat wave. But it is still a magical time to appreciate nature's beauty and welcome the autumn season (which we hope will come very soon!)

Tips to stay cool during summer in Japan ☀️🎐
1) Hang a wind chime- the soft clink of the chimes soothes the soul and has a cooling effect
2) Have some somen noodles! - these refreshing noodles are served cold in a chilled dipping broth
3) Hang sudare (bamboo blinds) from the windows to block the harsh glare of the sun

Aside from the northern island of Hokkaido, Japan has very hot and humid summers and so there are lots of time-tested ways to beat the heat.
