Incredible craftsmanship by Kondo-san.
What I love most is the contrast between the original timbers and the new ones, you can read the building’s timeline directly in the wood.

All new timber is locally and sustainably sourced.

The MILL is looking for a part-time bilingual assistant / project coordinator to support our kominka renovation, regenerative living project, and SATO_LAB workshops in Fujino / Tokyo.

This is a hands-on support role across coordination, site work, workshops, and administration, ideal for someone organised, reliable, and interested in long-term regenerative projects.

In Episode 3 of The MILL, we hold our first hands-on workshop: carefully taking down the clay walls of a 100-year-old kominka farmhouse in rural Japan.

Instead of throwing materials away, we’re collecting, sorting, and storing the original clay to reuse next spring. Every step honors the wisdom of traditional Japanese building methods — slow, circular, and sustainable.

This is restoration as regeneration.
