Once one of Japan’s most significant gold mines, Sado Gold Mine played a key role in supporting the Tokugawa shogunate.
Centered around the mine, people and skills gathered here, shaping the island’s economy and daily life over time.

🪵 木が語る、建築の骨格
寳光寺には、明治時代の職人技が今も残されています。
手打ちの和釘、一本の棟木、当時の土壁。

The Hojo residence, located in the heart of Sado Island, is an estate with a history of nearly 350 years.
Composed of five structures—including the main house, storehouses, and a gate—each building served its own role, carrying the transitions of daily life from the Edo through the Meiji period.

🏯 五棟でつくられた、ひとつの暮らし
佐渡島の中央に佇む北條家住宅は、築およそ350年の歴史を持つ邸宅です。
主屋、蔵、長屋門など、五棟の建物で構成され、それぞれが役割を持ちながら、江戸から明治へと続く暮らしの変遷を伝えてきました。
世代を超えて形づくられた「生活の風景」が、ここにあります。

The Nachikatsuura Fund HOKOJI TEMPLE
🌱 A quiet annex shaped by the temple’s natural silence
Hokoji is being reimagined as a quiet annex to Daitaiji Temple—a place set gently apart from the noise of everyday life, where time moves more slowly and calmly.

After engaging in Buddhist practices such as meditation and sutra copying at Daitaiji, visitors return to Hokoji for moments of stillness and reflection, shared with themselves or with family.
Here, within the quiet presence of the temple, daily life fades away, leaving only mountain breezes, the sound of water, and an unhurried flow of time.

🌱 寺の“静けさ”を活かした、穏やかなアネックス
寳光寺は、本寺である大泰寺の“静かなアネックス”として整えられ、喧騒から少し離れて、落ち着いた時間を過ごせる場所として構想されています。

大泰寺で坐禅や写経などの仏教体験に触れたあと、寳光寺では、自分や家族と向き合う静かな時間へ。日常から離れ、寺に佇む静けさの中、山風と水音だけが流れる、ゆっくりとしたひとときが待っています。

🛏️ Staying Within a Living Cultural Landscape
The Hojo estate’s three storehouses—once for rice, miso, and family heirlooms—also played a role in preparing wild and medicinal herbs that supported the family and community’s healing.
These structures, each designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, will be gently restored into small lodging spaces.

北條家には、米蔵・味噌蔵・家財蔵という3つの蔵が並び、かつては野草や薬草を取り扱い、家族や地域の人々の療養を支えてきました。これらの登録有形文化財は、丁寧な改修を経て、小さな宿泊空間として生まれ変わります。“見るだけではなく、文化財の中で過ごす” 特別な体験が、ここから始まります。
