Kenya Projects offers market to purchasers for production of charcoal briquettes. For more information Google Bluegum/Casuarina Trees. The tree takes about 2 – 3 years to mature and fetch in the market an average price of Ksh. 1,000 per tree. 600 plants can be planted in an acre of land hence fetching about 1,000 x 600 = 600,000 after 4 years. An acre of land in the project is currently selling at between Ksh. 200,000 – Ksh. 400,000 (subject to availability) and cost of planting trees and taking care for 3 years is Ksh. 40,000 i.e at a minimum of Ksh. 240,000 one gets an acre with clean title deed and labour cost for local farmers to plant and attend the tree for 3 years. Members to re-negotiate in 4th year or may opt to sell trees or trees and land and the group would facilitate. The project return on investment of Ksh. 240,000 is Ksh. 150,000 per year i.e 600,000/4 = 150,000. i.e in the 1st year the value of land is likely to be Ksh. 390,000 as there will be 600 bluegum trees on the land.
