A healthy nation is built by healthy workers.
Today, I was encouraged to see the launch of an affordable medical cover tailored for domestic and informal workers. This is more than just an insurance product it is a step towards recognising the invaluable contribution of the men and women who build, repair, clean, maintain, and keep our homes, businesses, and economy running every single day.
As the founder of Kapha Good Fundi Services, this resonates deeply with me.
Behind every painted wall, every repaired roof, every installed electrical system, every plumbing solution, and every beautifully finished home is a fundi whose hands transform ideas into reality. Yet many of these skilled professionals continue to work without access to basic social protection, quality healthcare, or financial security.
I dream of the day when every fundi in Kenya will not only be respected for their skill but will also enjoy decent healthcare, financial inclusion, continuous professional development, and dignified working conditions.
When we invest in the welfare of our artisans, we are investing in stronger families, better workmanship, more productive businesses, and ultimately, a stronger economy.
To organisations taking deliberate steps towards improving the welfare of the informal sector, thank you. May this be the beginning of many more initiatives that uplift the people who often work behind the scenes but whose contribution is visible everywhere we look.
As for me, I remain committed to advocating for the dignity, professionalism, and welfare of Kenya's blue-collar workforce. It is a journey, but I believe that one day, together, we shall transform the lives of thousands of fundis across our nation.
Because behind every great building is a great fundi. And behind every great fundi should be a society that values, protects, and empowers them.
