When designing any space, there are two classifications of individuals. Some esteem aesthetics over functionality, while for others, it's the reverse. A balance is always good so you aren't compromising on your ability to interact with the space or your contentment. Make sure that whatever you settle for supports utility and attracts you at the same time. For instance, I won't just go and get a set of cooking spoons, I want them to fit into my theme in terms of colour, material, etc... Makes sense?

There is no offence in loving bright colours in your space. However, there should be a delicate balance of subtlety and extravagance. Positioning of bright-coloured elements also influences the outlook. You neither want to concentrate the bright colour to one place in the space, nor overuse it.
