Real estate developers in Nairobi have raised alarm over what they describe as a cartel involving county staff and officers from Kamukunji Police Station said to be arbitrarily arresting contractors, buyers, and workers before demanding bribes ranging from Ksh 20,000 to Ksh 100,000 for their release.

They have warned that the unchecked extortion has created an atmosphere of fear that threatens investment, undermines property rights, and risks turning Nairobi’s housing market into a breeding ground for harassment and disillusionment unless urgent intervention relevant oversight bodies such as NCA and EACC.
