*A teenager commits su***de in Kamukunji, Nairobi,* as a result of the game: *"THE BLUE WHALE CHALLENGE"*... a game that brainwashes children to commit su***de. The online game has resulted in about 130 suicidal deaths in Russia, and is now gaining prominence across the world - sadly it has reached Kenya!
THUS, PARENTS, THE IMPORTANCE OF:
1. Getting involved in your child's life - having healthy dialogs about their days and Social Media.
2. Paying attention to behavioral changes in your child, especially if they become reserved, withdrawn or fearful of Social Media.
3. Contacting your child's school in case s/he has engaged with the Blue Whale Challenge - other students might be engaging with it too.
4. Urging your child to report any misbehavior they encounter online and on social media.
5. Teaching your kids what information should be kept private, especially on the internet. If they're struggling, encourage them to confide in you, a family member, or a trusted adult.
7. Remembering that "loving" your child means taking actions that may make your child not "like" you at times. It's okay to take your child's phone, search through it and make sure they are interacting with people you know (and in a way that is healthy).
