some friends asked what a physical/ Town/urban planner does and if there is any differences in all these professionals. This was my response.

All these are the same, they all refer to physical planning that is also know as urban and regional planning.

Nevertheless, there are two types of planners. i.e Planners in the public sector and planners in the private sector.

Planners in public sector work in the various physical planning departments in all the 47 counties. They mainly deal with approving the different proposed development plans. This is done once every month.
There are also planners at the Ministry of lands where county or national plans are approved.

The planners in private practise often deal with land management tools. These include;
1. Change of use
2. land subdivision
3. land amalgamation
4.Extension of use
5.Renewal of use
6. Extension of lease
7. Renewal of lease
8. Environmental impact assessment( EIA )
9. Environmental Audits(EA)
10. Environmental study report.
11. Development masterplans.
