Today, President William Ruto inspected the ongoing construction of the Ngong Vet Affordable Housing Project in Ngong, Kajiado North.
The development comprises 20 residential blocks of 14 floors each, delivering 2,000 units across social, affordable and market-rate housing categories. The project also includes complementary facilities such as 40 retail shops, a kindergarten, school, clubhouse and other essential amenities.
The ongoing project is part of the Government’s efforts and commitment to expand access to decent and affordable homes while creating opportunities for local communities. It has also provided employment for more than 600 people from the surrounding community, supporting livelihoods as construction progresses.

A smooth process from registration to allocation has made homeownership a reality for Michael Mujivane at the Boma Yangu Milimani Estate in Vihiga County. After registering, paying the required 5% deposit and being allocated a unit, Michael describes the process as seamless and sees the Affordable Housing Programme as a practical opportunity for low-income earners to own decent homes because of the affordability of the units.
He values the opportunity to make payments towards a home he will eventually own, noting that this sets the programme apart from conventional rentals, where monthly payments do not translate into homeownership.
