Indonesia, the second most populated nation in the world, is a major agricultural commodity producer. Rice, corn, cassava, soybeans, and peanuts are the main food crops. This nation is also renowned as one of the biggest producers and exporters of tree crops, including rubber, copra, palm kernels, palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and spices. The government carried out a variety of economic initiatives in the 1980s with the aim of converting non-tariff hurdles into tariffs, rationalizing and reducing tariffs, and eliminating barriers to foreign investment. Deregulation programs are released at least once a year as part of trade policy reforms (Fao, 2001).
This year, the Indonesian government started its first export of 50 tonnes to 1000 tonnes of chicken meat into Singapore. How does this export ensure it has met the high standard of safe food in Singapore authority "SFA"? Singapore is one of the countries in the world that has a high safety standard for food imports in order to ensure there is no food-borne disease outbreak at the point of consumption. The Singapore Food Agency, under the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, has put measures in place to ensure that food is safe for consumption.
But there are still two concerns for the Indonesian government regarding their first export: 1). Supply and demand 2). The Food Safety Standard
Under a business-to-business agreement, Charoen Pokphand Indonesia will supply 1,000 tonnes of chicken meat to Singapore until the end of the year.
