Preserving Cultural Memory Through the Lens.
German photographer Arjay Stevens recently donated a valuable collection of photographs to the Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA), documenting Cambodia’s Royal Ballet and traditional performing arts. Stevens, an artist and photographer long devoted to Khmer culture, has regarded Cambodia as his second home since 1996, using his lens to record the country’s cultural landscapes and performing arts over the years.
The donation includes 66 photographs, highlighting the legendary Royal Ballet dancer Em Theay as well as scenes from the traditional masked dance drama Lakhon Khol. Em Theay once said, “The Royal Ballet is my national identity and my soul.” Despite having lived through war and genocide, she remained deeply content with her life and carried no regrets.
This donation not only provides RUFA with valuable resources for education and research, but also symbolizes the meaningful support of international artists in preserving Cambodia’s intangible cultural heritage.

អ្នកថតរូបជនជាតិអាឡឺម៉ង់ Arjay Stevens ថ្មីៗនេះបានបរិច្ចាគបណ្តុំរូបថតដ៏មានតម្លៃដល់សាកលវិទ្យាល័យភូមិន្ទវិចិត្រសិល្បៈ (RUFA) ដែលចងក្រងជាឯកសារអំពីរបាំព្រះរាជទ្រព្យ និងសិល្បៈប្រពៃណីរបស់កម្ពុជា។ Stevens ដែលជាវិចិត្រករ និងជាអ្នកថតរូបម្នាក់ដែលលះបង់យ៉ាងយូរចំពោះវប្បធម៌ខ្មែរ បានចាត់ទុកប្រទេសកម្ពុជាជាផ្ទះទីពីររបស់គាត់ចាប់តាំងពីឆ្នាំ 1996 ដោយប្រើប្រាសើកាម៉េរារបស់គាត់ដើម្បីថតទេសភាពវប្បធម៌របស់ប្រទេស និងសិល្បៈសម្តែងក្នុងរយៈពេលជាច្រើនឆ្នាំកន្លងមកនេះ។
អំណោយនេះរួមមានរូបថតចំនួន ៦៦ សន្លឹក ដែលបង្ហាញពីអ្នករាំរបាំព្រះរាជទ្រព្យ ឯម ធាយ ក៏ដូចជាឈុតឆាកនៃរបាំប្រពៃណី ល្ខោនខោល ។ ឯម ធាយ ធ្លាប់មានប្រសាសន៍ថា «របាំព្រះរាជទ្រព្យជាអត្តសញ្ញាណជាតិ និងជាព្រលឹងរបស់ខ្ញុំ»។ ទោះបីជាបានឆ្លងកាត់សង្រ្គាម និងការប្រល័យពូជសាសន៍ក៏ដោយ ក៏នាងនៅតែស្កប់ស្កល់នឹងជីវិតរបស់នាង ហើយមិនមានការសោកស្តាយអ្វីឡើយ។
អំណោយនេះមិនត្រឹមតែផ្តល់ឱ្យ RUFA នូវធនធានដ៏មានតម្លៃសម្រាប់ការអប់រំ និងការស្រាវជ្រាវប៉ុណ្ណោះទេ ប៉ុន្តែក៏ជានិមិត្តរូបនៃការគាំទ្រដ៏មានអត្ថន័យរបស់សិល្បករអន្តរជាតិក្នុងការអភិរក្សបេតិកភណ្ឌវប្បធម៌អរូបីរបស់កម្ពុជា។
