3 BEIRUT IS PROUD TO SPONSOR 'TEACH A CHILD'
'Teach a Child' is a non-profit organization that provides financial support to children across Lebanon to help them enroll in public schools regardless of their gender, religion, location and performance. Established in 2011, it has fully supported the enrollment 105 students in 2011/2012, 409 students in 2012/2013 and 600 students in 2013/2014 in 29 public schools across Lebanon.
Lebanon is a country with large needs. Despite the presence of public schools, many families, especially those with three, four or more children are unable to cover all expenses related to their children’s education. This is where we come in and offer our help. We coordinate with public schools principals and community stakeholders in order to enroll students of families in need and we cover all expenses related to registration, transportation, books, stationary, and the imposed parents’ committee fees.
The aim of our NGO is to make sure that no child is left behind. We commit to supporting all the children of a family until they finish their schooling and we promote for the implementation of
compulsory education throughout Lebanon. One of our major concerns is street children. Unfortunately, there are no mechanisms to ensure that all children are enrolled at school and no penalties imposed on parents who fail to send their children to school. We are lobbying with our members of parliament and with our ministers to amend the laws so that education becomes free, compulsory and imposed on every child in Lebanon.
“Teach a Child” works on collecting funds through a variety of ways: in addition to members’ contributions and generous donations from committed individuals and corporations, we organize yearly a major fund raising event. This year, a dinner is planned at saint George - Beirut on Friday 29 May 2015. This event will gather around 600 Teach A Child supporters and friends and will have full media coverage. '
