The Sketch, located in the Western Province of Sri Lanka at the outskirts of Colombo; Delthara, Piliyandala within the visual proximity to Bolgoda Lake which is a unique ecosystem enriched with bio diversity. The lake preserves the biodiversity and birds, squirrels, blue dragonflies, reptiles, porcupines and even monkeys aren’t rear to see.

The design derived with a square which could wrap more area with a minimum circumference. Therefore it is expected to reduce the quantity of the materials consumed and the cost too. Then the Ground Floor is designed to have different configurations and spatial use as mentioned above. These configurations are made available since the staircase is located centrally at a strategic location which also create vistas towards the nature when climbing down.

The only offset from the square shape is the balcony toward North which shaped along with the property and the circular wall void detail creates a view corridor to borrow landscape and to enjoy the nature. This balcony is the place where you could enjoy the tropical rain being out of the house but without getting fully soaked in the rain.

It is quite interesting to see the birds on the tree canopies and their singing. Due to the large openable façades of three sides, natural brick and cement finishes, birds are not thinking twice to visit the first floor every day. Some would not hesitate to fly across the house from west to east, and also from West to North and vice a versa.
