It’s a YES that SHED Reception hours have limits, but that’s also a YES that our assistance for our residents is limitless!
No matter the hours, we are here for you: if something comes up when our staff is already out, you can always reach our House Managers – fellow residents who keep things running smoothly.
You’ve already met Seywan, so now it’s time to get to know the second half of our right-hand team: say hi to Emil!
🗨️ SHED: What made you want to become a SHED House Manager?
🟦 Emil: After working at SHED for some time, I wanted to take on more responsibility and be someone the housemates could rely on. I enjoy meeting people from different countries and being part of the SHED community. Becoming a House Manager felt like a good opportunity to help create a welcoming and comfortable environment for everyone.
🗨️ SHED: What are you most looking forward to as a House Manager?
🟦 Emil: I’m looking forward to meeting new housemates, helping them whenever they need it and making sure they feel at home at SHED. After 2 years here, I’m excited to continue being part of SHED community in a different role.
🗨️ SHED: What’s one fun fact about you that your housemates might not know yet?
🟦 Emil:
When I first came to Riga, I wanted to buy a computer and found a shop quite far from my place. With the temperature around –17°C, I took a bus to get there. When I reached the last bus stop, I realised there was no mall. I checked the map and saw that I had taken the wrong bus. In the end, I walked about 6 km in that freezing temperature.
🗨️ SHED: Your TOP tip for new students in Riga?
🟦 Emil: Don’t be afraid to explore Riga & meet new people. The best part of living in a student residence is the international community, so take advantage of it! Also, don’t spend all your time at home: try different cafés, events, parks & places around the city. You’ll quickly start to feel like Riga is your home.
