It's International Women's Rights Day today
I wonât say Happy IWRD, because honestly, itâs not. The fact that we still need this day is frustrating. It makes me angry. It makes me sad.
When I look at the world today; bullies in power, womenâs rights in decline in 1 in 4 countries. What kind of future are we leaving for our children? What message does this send them?
But I do have children; a girl and a boy; which means I have to hold onto hope. And I have to keep fighting for them.
I believe it starts with education. Equal treatment and respect begin at home, and between parents, because we are our childrenâs first example. Schools must follow, ensuring access to quality education. Teaching consent, healthy relationships, and equality should be a priority for every government. From the roots, to grow empathetic & respectful adults.
Letâs raise sons who see strength in kindness, not control. Letâs raise daughters who never doubt they belong.
Womenâs rights arenât about special treatment. Theyâre about fairness. And fairness should be for everyone.
Fighting for womenâs rights doesnât take anything away from anyone; it ensures everyone has the same rights, respect, and opportunities. No gender, race, or background should be a barrier to safety, success, or simply being heard.
Equality lifts everyone up. When womenâs rights improve, societies thrive. Economies grow. Education levels rise. Communities become healthier.
So why isnât this fight everyoneâs fight? What are politicians and people in power doing? Where are the public figures standing up? So few.
We belong in art, politics, sports, science, leadership; everywhere decisions are made. We should be half. Not an exception. Not a quota. Equal. Same respect. Same recognition. Same pay.
Why wouldnât we be? Arenât we all part of the same species?
Sorry, not sorry for the thoughts of the day.
I promise, on International Talk Like a Pirate Day, my tone will be a wee bit smootherâyarrr, maybe. đŽââ ïž
