Alliance Real Estate Enters New Chapter as Dr Leon Chetcuti is Appointed CEO and Michael Bonello Becomes Chairman
Alliance Real Estate has announced a new leadership structure, with Michael Bonello taking on the role of Chairman and Dr Leon Chetcuti appointed Chief Executive Officer, as the group looks towards its next phase of growth.
The change follows 6 years of remarkable growth for Alliance. During Michael’s tenure as CEO, the group grew from 7 offices and around 120 property advisors to 30 offices and close to 400 advisors, making Alliance one of Malta’s largest real estate networks.
Michael will remain actively involved in Alliance as Chairman, with a particular focus on business development, new opportunities and the longer term direction of the Group. The new structure will allow Michael to dedicate more of his time to developing the business, while the CEO and management team oversee its day to day operations.
Commenting on the transition, Michael said:
“Alliance is at a very different stage today from where we started six years ago, and the way we lead the business has to develop with it. Moving into the role of Chairman gives me the opportunity to focus more of my time on business development, new opportunities and where we want to take Alliance in the years ahead. I will remain very much involved in the business and I am looking forward to working with Leon and the rest of the team as we take this next step.”
Leon joins Alliance after serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Malta Development Association. A lawyer specialising in real estate and property law, he brings extensive experience of Malta’s property sector, spanning legal practice, industry representation and executive leadership.
As CEO, Leon will lead the day-to-day operations of Alliance, working closely with Michael and the Board of Directors, as well as the Group’s management team, franchise owners and property advisors, as the organisation continues to grow.
Commenting on his appointment, Leon said:
“Alliance has built an impressive business and, more importantly, a network of people who have contributed to making it what it is today. I am proud to be taking on the role of CEO at an important point in the Group’s development.
The property industry is changing, and businesses like ours need to keep moving with it. There is a real opportunity for Alliance to build on its scale, invest further in its people and technology, and continue raising the standard of the service we provide.
Together with Michael, our management team and the wider Alliance network, our focus will be on growing the business responsibly, strengthening the organisation behind it and making sure Alliance remains at the forefront of Malta’s real estate industry.”
For Alliance, the transition is not about changing the direction that has brought the business this far. It is about putting the right structure in place to support where the business wants to go next.
