Malta has approved 220 new hotels and guesthouses since 2024 — 62 hotels and 158 guesthouses, adding over 5,200 rooms to the island.

🇲🇹 Big changes for short-let owners in Malta.

Legal Notice 92 of 2026 came into force on 15 June, and it's the biggest overhaul of short-let rules we've seen in years — new occupancy caps, a 90-day booking limit, mandatory 24/7 contact requirements, and stricter safety standards, to name a few.

One more thing owners should know right now: the MTA has temporarily paused new licence applications, with acceptance expected to resume 27 July.
