❤️ My St Julians
San Ġiljan, also known as St Julian’s, began as a small coastal settlement built around the sea, especially the areas of Spinola Bay and Balluta Bay.
For many years, it was known as a quiet fishing village, with fishermen, boat houses, seaside homes, and traditional coastal life shaping its identity. Over time, it also became a popular summer area for Maltese families and wealthier locals looking for a peaceful place by the sea.
One of its historic landmarks is Spinola Palace, built in the 17th century, which helped shape the early development of the area around Spinola Bay.
Today, San Ġiljan is one of Malta’s busiest and most recognisable localities. It is known for its restaurants, hotels, cafés, seafront walks, nightlife, and entertainment, especially around Paceville.
But beyond the busy side, San Ġiljan still keeps parts of its old charm through Spinola Bay, colourful fishing boats, Balluta, old houses, and its strong connection to the sea.
The locality celebrates its feast in honour of St Julian, bringing together its parish tradition, village community, and coastal identity.
From a peaceful fishing village to one of Malta’s main tourism and leisure centres, San Ġiljan remains a place where old seaside Malta and modern Malta meet. 🌊🇲🇹
