Ever wondered what surveyors really do and how they contribute to Malawi’s development?

Visit the Surveyors Institute of Malawi (SIM) and gain insight into the professional chapters that support effective land administration, responsible investment, infrastructure delivery and sustainable national development.

1. LAND ECONOMISTS & VALUERS (LE CHAPTER)

The Land Economists and Valuers Chapter provides professional leadership in land, property and real estate services. Its members deliver property valuations, investment analysis, feasibility studies, market research, property management and land economics advice. Through these services, the chapter supports informed decision-making, transparent property markets, efficient public and private investment, fair compensation and increased economic value from land and property assets.

2. LAND SURVEYORS (LS CHAPTER)

The Land Surveyors Chapter oversees professional services relating to the measurement, mapping and definition of land boundaries and spatial information. Its members support land registration, cadastral administration, urban and regional planning, construction, infrastructure development, environmental management and national mapping. By providing accurate geospatial information, the chapter strengthens land governance, reduces boundary disputes and enables coordinated national development.

3. QUANTITY SURVEYORS (QS CHAPTER)

The Quantity Surveyors Chapter provides strategic cost and commercial management throughout the construction project lifecycle. Its members undertake cost estimation, budgeting, procurement, tendering, valuation of works, contract administration and cost control. Their contribution promotes value for money, financial accountability, efficient resource allocation, quality project delivery and the successful implementation of public and private infrastructure projects.

Through the coordinated work of these chapters, surveyors contribute to sound land governance, economic growth, infrastructure development, investment confidence and the sustainable transformation of Malawi.
