Meet Mateo—the creator and host of Casa Teo.

Imagine waking up to breathtaking ocean views, the sun warming your face, and the excitement of a day filled with adventure. Will you head to the water for kiteboarding or wingfoiling? Hike or eBike into the hills? Relax in the nearby natural hot springs? Or board a ‘’panga’’ to explore the ocean in search of marine life? These experiences and more are part of Mateo’s vision for Casa Teo.

For nearly 4 years, Mateo has called La Ventana home, fully embracing the beach lifestyle. But his connection to this windy paradise runs far deeper—he’s been visiting with family and friends for nearly 25 years.

In his search for the perfect property to bring his dream of a welcoming coliving space to life, Mateo discovered a unique opportunity.

Years earlier, a Canadian couple had started building a cooking school on the site. Managing the construction from afar proved too challenging, and after a year, they abandoned the project, leaving behind an ‘’obra negra’’— a bare-bones structure of block and concrete. Nearly 12 years later, they were ready to let go. Mateo saw not only the potential to bring his vision to life but also the chance to complete what they had started.

The journey to create Casa Teo was anything but smooth. The real estate deal was one of the toughest Mateo had ever faced, with countless challenges that nearly ended the project. Yet, he persevered, driven by his dream of creating a space where guests could feel at home and connected.

Today, Casa Teo stands as a testament to that determination. Mateo sees it not only as the realization of his dream but also as the fulfillment of the couple’s original vision, now thriving with life and purpose.
