After countless sunset walks along Puerto Vallarta’s Malecón, I can tell you there’s no better way to ease into the evening here. Start near the downtown sculptures, follow the waterfront as the Pacific turns gold and coral, and let the warm breeze, palm trees, and lively promenade set the pace.

This is one of my favorite local tips: don’t rush straight from your condo to dinner. Give yourself time to watch the sky change behind Los Arcos, listen to the sounds of the city, and stop at a nearby café or restaurant when the evening starts to glow. It’s a completely different experience from being tucked away in a hotel, following someone else’s schedule.

Around Mexican Independence Day on September 15 and 16, the Malecón and Plaza de Armas come alive with flags, festive decorations, traditional food, music, dancing, and the Independence Day parade. I love finding a good spot along the boardwalk, feeling the ocean breeze, and watching families, school groups, charro riders, and visitors celebrate together with the sparkling Pacific in the background.
