Every summer, as hurricane season begins, someone inevitably asks us the same question.

"Should we be worried?"

It is a fair question, especially if you have never lived beside the sea.

Our answer is usually the same.

No. But you should be prepared.

Preparation is simply part of living responsibly in any waterfront town. It means paying attention to the weather, having a plan, and understanding that nature deserves our respect.

Over the years, one of our routines has become checking eebmike.com. It has become our first stop because it brings together National Hurricane Center forecasts, satellite imagery, weather discussions, radar, and other weather resources in one convenient place.

Fortunately, most tropical systems never become a direct threat to San Carlos. But every season reminds us that preparation brings peace of mind.

Living beside the Sea of Cortez is one of life's great privileges.

Respecting it is simply part of the experience.

Many things contribute to the stability of a town. One of the most important is community.

Community is not measured by population, infrastructure, or real estate statistics. It is reflected in the willingness of people to contribute their time, energy, and resources for the benefit of others.

In San Carlos, that spirit can be seen in countless ways. Volunteers support emergency services, charitable organizations, community groups, fundraising events, and local causes throughout the year. Most of this work takes place quietly, without recognition, simply because people care about the town they call home.

Events such as the annual Pie Social in support of Rescate are a reminder that community is built one relationship at a time. Neighbors gather, friendships are strengthened, and important organizations receive the support they need to continue serving everyone who lives here and visits here.

Many people first discover San Carlos because of the water, the climate, or the lifestyle.

What many of us come to appreciate over time is something less obvious but perhaps even more important: a community of people willing to support one another.

That sense of belonging may be one of San Carlos' greatest strengths.

The questions buyers ask about San Carlos today are very different than they were twenty years ago.

Years ago, most conversations centered around weather, boating, fishing, and affordability. Those things still matter, but increasingly buyers are also asking practical questions about year-round living.

Healthcare is one of them.

Over time, San Carlos and Guaymas have seen meaningful growth in medical services and emergency response infrastructure. The opening of Hospital San José added another important layer to local healthcare access, alongside the longstanding work of local physicians, Cruz Roja, and organizations such as Rescate de San Carlos, whose ambulance and emergency response services have become an essential part of the community.

No waterfront town is ever static. As communities mature, expectations evolve alongside them. Buyers increasingly evaluate not only lifestyle and beauty, but also the practical realities that support longer stays, remote work, retirement, and year-round living.

That shift says a great deal about where San Carlos is today and where it may be heading in the years ahead.
