LA has many treasures. Some, like Venice Beach, are well known, others like the Apple Tower Theatre on S. Broadway, perhaps less so. This is my first time hanging in downtown LA. Big city for a girl who grew up in a town of 500 people. I admit I turned around and dressed down after venturing out and walking two blocks. 😳

Mickey Muñoz is one of those people who deserve the moniker “legend” not just because of his history as a big wave surfer, inventor of the Quasimodo stance, his surfboard shaping and sailboat design, his adventurous approach to life, but because he is a font of surf history and great stories in general. There’s nothing like listening to Mickey talk story. Though our paths don’t cross often despite living here on the southern East Cape (mainly because I stick to my little bay and he to his) I am proud to call him friend. Thanks Escape to the Cape for bringing Mickey and me together for the annual Surf and Music Fest!
