The Sea of Cortez is more than a sea. It’s an ecosystem like few others. 🌊

Also known as the Gulf of California, it stretches along Mexico’s Baja California peninsula and is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.

Its 244 islands, islets, and coastal areas are home to 891 species of fish, including 90 found nowhere else, as well as an extraordinary diversity of marine life. The region is also home to around 39% of the world’s marine mammal species.

What makes it so remarkable is the contrast: one of Mexico’s most arid landscapes meeting incredibly productive waters.

This is Baja at its wildest where desert, ocean, and life exist side by side. 🌵🌊

También conocido como el Golfo de California, se extiende a lo largo de la península de Baja California y es reconocido por la UNESCO como Patrimonio Mundial.

Sus 244 islas, islotes y zonas costeras albergan 891 especies de peces, 90 de ellas endémicas, además de una extraordinaria diversidad de vida marina. La región también concentra alrededor del 39% de las especies de mamíferos marinos del mundo.

Lo que lo hace tan especial es el contraste: uno de los paisajes más áridos de México frente a aguas de una enorme riqueza biológica.

PLAYA LAS PALMAS WHERE THE OCEAN MEETS THE HISTORY OF TODOS SANTOS 🌴🌊

Long before Todos Santos became known for its galleries, restaurants, and laid-back coastal lifestyle, this valley was an important oasis in Baja California Sur.

The name Las Palmas is deeply connected to that history. In the early 1700s, Jesuit missionaries established an outpost in the area, eventually founding the Misión Santa Rosa de las Palmas in 1733. The surrounding palm groves and reliable water made this one of the few places in the region suitable for settlement and agriculture.

Today, Playa Las Palmas offers a completely different way to experience that same landscape.

Palm trees, open Pacific coastline, wide stretches of sand, and the Sierra de la Laguna in the distance create the unmistakable contrast that defines this part of Baja: oasis, desert, and ocean in the same place.

It is a quieter side of Todos Santos one where the landscape does most of the talking.

And perhaps that's what makes Las Palmas worth visiting.

Not simply for the beach, but to understand a little more about the place that surrounds it.
