So much talk about the Sargassum (Seaweed) problems with the beaches in the Riviera Maya. While this is all true, the Mexican government is taking new measures to eliminate the seaweed out at sea before it ever reaches the beaches. This is great news but something that goes under the radar is that there is NO seaweed at the areas spectacular Lagoons and Cenotes...EVER! Check out this new video we made on our recent stay at Casa Luna del Sol. It's still paradise. 😎

Still so much concern about the seaweed issues in the Riviera Maya, especially if you are planning a trip to the area. Remember, the lagoons have NO SEAWEED, and are spectacular, see our earlier post we made about Nopalitos below. There is however a new site for checking current beach conditions throughout the entire Riviera Maya region, so when you want to find a beach that's decent check this out:

Live sargassum & beach conditions across the Riviera Maya and the Caribbean. Hotel beach cams, fresh photos, and a daily clean-beach map.

Head 30 minutes down the highway from Tulum and climb the tallest pyramid on the Yucatan peninsula. Was there last summer and they were starting to build the new steps and the pyramid was closed for climbing. Can't wait to go back now and check out the fantastic view form the top!

The massive Coba pyramid near Cancun has officially reopened for climbing. Scale the summit of this ancient Maya temple that dwarfs Chichen Itza.

So this year has proven to be pretty bad for the sargassum (seaweed) showing up on the beautiful beaches of the Riviera Maya. The gross brown algae turns the turquoise waters into a disgusting chocolate mess. This may discourage many of you from visiting the area, well let me reassure you, there are many fantastic substitutes for the beach in and around Tulum. Cenotes and lagoons are a welcome alternative with amazingly refreshingly clear waters and beach surroundings. We checked out Sipalitos on the Nepalitos lagoon and it was absolutely FANTASTIC. So don't let the seaweed stories deter you from booking a stay at Casa Luna del Sol!😉
