10 Global Giants Operating in Penang: A Semiconductor Powerhouse
Penang's position as a global manufacturing powerhouse continues to strengthen, supported by the State Government's investment promotion and strategic industrial development policies.
Penang has remained Malaysia's largest exporting state from 2023 to 2025, with annual exports rising from RM447.4 billion in 2023 to RM494.9 billion in 2024 and RM574 billion in 2025.
That's an impressive RM126.6 billion increase, or 28.3%, in just two years.
The momentum continued into 2026, with Penang accounting for 48.9% of Malaysia's exports in June alone.
Foreign investors are equally confident.
In 2025, Penang secured RM22.4 billion in approved manufacturing investments, including RM15.2 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI).
Another RM17.3 billion was approved in the first half of 2026, up 38% year-on-year, making Penang Malaysia's leading state for approved manufacturing investments during that period.
These achievements reflect the State Government's commitment to strengthening the electrical and electronics (E&E) ecosystem through investment facilitation, infrastructure, talent development and industrial upgrading.
Silicon Island is among Penang's most significant long-term strategic initiatives.
Its planned 700-acre Green Tech Park will create space for advanced semiconductor manufacturing, chip packaging, semiconductor equipment and other high-value industries.
The ambition is clear: propel Penang into its next phase of industrialisation, strengthen local companies and create more high-income jobs for Malaysians.
