KPKT is studying a rule that would let property buyers cancel a purchase and get their money back within 3 months of signing the agreement..

And allow developers to retract launched projects if they are not selling well, to control and aim to banish the abandoned project issue in Malaysia.

It impacts buyers, developers and property agents very differently.

We call it Merdeka 118. Now it’s officially renamed.

Menara Merdeka Maybank.

Merdeka means independence. The rest of it was paid for.

Maybank rents 33 floors. Roughly RM70 million a year, on a lease that can run 21 years.

Over a billion ringgit, into a tower that cost around RM5 billion to build.

This is how naming has always worked. The Sears Tower is the Willis Tower now. The Burj Dubai became the Burj Khalifa on opening day.

Petronas(twin tower) is a company too.

We just stopped noticing, because enough time passed.

Give it twenty years and nobody will flinch at this one either.

Every skyline we have ever been proud of was somebody’s invoice. We only notice when the ink is still wet.

Singapore’s Thomson Medical is building a whole medical city right here in JB. 🏥

At Stulang, one stop from Singapore on the RTS, they’re building “Johor Bay” an RM18bil waterfront township with a hospital that can scale up to 1,000 beds, medical suites, aged care, a five-star hotel and luxury residences.

This is bigger than one hospital. Medical tourism brings international patients flying in, and that ripples straight into the local economy: jobs, rental demand, and business for the malls, hotels and shops around it. Malaysia already saw 1.8 million medical travellers in 2025, and the target for 2030 is RM12bil.

For years, medical tourism in Malaysia meant Penang. Soon Johor joins the map too, especially for senior patients from Singapore and Indonesia crossing over for quality care at a fraction of the price.
