Shaped like a turtle, the Lin Xiang Xiong Art Gallery (LXX) is set to open in December 2025 in Penang
The building is designed to resemble a turtle emerging from the sea, a powerful symbol in Chinese culture for longevity, prosperity, and kindness.
Its location by The Light Waterfront makes the design even more fitting, as if the turtle-shaped gallery is emerging straight from the shoreline.
Spanning 8,000 sq/m across seven storeys, the gallery features sleek glass panels and airy, light-filled interiors that open up towards the sea, giving it a futuristic look.
Inside, you'll find exhibition halls, a café, a rooftop terrace, and even a UNESCO education centre dedicated to art and culture.
Owned by humanitarian-artist Prof Lin Xiang Xiong, the gallery will showcase 300 of his works alongside 200 pieces from global artists, representing both Eastern and Western traditions
The space aims to honour Lin's legacy as a world-renowned artist and reflect his vision of using art as a bridge for global peace.
The gallery will also host cultural dialogues, workshops, and exhibitions exploring themes of harmony, compassion, and coexistence, with partnerships from organisations such as Leaders for Peace.
"Cultural and artistic works possess the power to promote global peace," said Lin. "Through art, we can infuse society with positive energy and guide hearts back to the right path."
Once open, the Lin Xiang Xiong Art Gallery will become Penang's next cultural landmark — a place where art, culture, and peace come together by the sea.
