A meeting was held on several proposals related to the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. Many members of ministries were involved, including Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Johor Chief Minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi. The meeting focused on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and Special Financial Zone in Johor. More than 500 projects in Johor for the this year 2024, with a cost of RM4.7 billion, have been approved. Major infrastructure projects in Johor are in the process of being upgraded, including a section of the North-South Highway from Senai to Simpang Renggam, the construction and upgrading of the JB Sultanah Aminah 2 hospital, and improvements to mitigate flooding in certain districts. All these projects are part of the effort to make the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone a new economic hub, ensuring successful cooperation and providing a seamless business environment for both Singapore and Malaysia, especially Johor. We anticipate that by 2027, when the Rapid Transit System (RTS) is operational, a large number of residents will reside in the JB and Iskandar Puteri areas.

Singapore checkpoints clearance will add 230 more automated lanes in 2024.

Singapore will be expanding its automated lances border with the addition of 230 more lanes at checkpoints. Specifically, 90 lanes will be implemented at both Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. This expansion aims to facilitate smoother and more efficient clearance for travelers. Furthermore, the additional automated lane clearance is expected to increase the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority's (ICA) capacity, allowing them to process around 70% more travelers per hour during peak periods out of the roughly from 5000 travelers handled per hour currently to 8500. The move comes in response to growing passenger traffic and the need for heightened efficiency in border security and customs clearance processes.

This development signifies Singapore's efforts to stay ahead of increasing travel demand by embracing technological advancements to streamline border management operations. The implementation of automated lances highlights a strategic investment in enhancing infrastructure capabilities that are vital for ensuring seamless travel experiences for passengers transiting through the country’s checkpoints. The reinforcement of these facilities demonstrates Singapore's commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and service as an international travel hub.
