🚀 What’s New This Year?
The 2026 tax landscape has seen some interesting shifts focused on digitalization and specific lifestyle reliefs:
TIN Integration: Your MyKad/NRIC number now officially serves as your Tax Identification Number (TIN). No more digging through old files to find your tax reference number!
e-Invoicing Rollout: Mandatory e-Invoicing has expanded. If you are a business owner with annual revenue up to RM5 million, compliance is now required as of January 2026.
Dividend Tax: If you received over RM100,000 in dividends during 2025, remember that these are now subject to a 2% tax which must be declared.
Stamp Duty Changes: For those in the property market, note that the stamp duty for residential property transfers to foreigners has increased to 8%.
💡 Maximize Your Reliefs
Budget 2026 introduced several expanded reliefs to help you save:
Domestic Tourism: A special relief of up to RM1,000 has been reintroduced for domestic travel expenses (entrance fees to attractions, etc.) to support Visit Malaysia 2026.
Home Safety & Sustainability: The RM2,500 relief for EV charging and food composters has been expanded to include CCTV for home use and food waste grinders.
Medical & Education: Expanded relief for all vaccines approved by the Ministry of Health and increased limits for early intervention programs for children (up to RM10,000).
Pro-Tip: LHDN has started processing refunds as of the second week of March. Early e-Filers typically see their refunds credited within 30 working days, so filing early literally pays off!
