KOTA KINABALU: Jade Residence Condominium owners today submitted a petition to Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Joachim Gunsalam, raising serious complaints against the developer and its managing agent, Smiths Gore Sabah.

The petition cites non-disclosure of accounts since 2023, unresolved power disruptions, illegal renovations, poor maintenance, unpaid management fees by the developer, delays in quit rent and strata title issuance, and failure to respond to official letters.

Sabah Real Estate Professionals Association president Nicholas Lim, also a unit owner, urged immediate ministerial intervention, saying the prolonged neglect was unacceptable and jeopardised residentsโ€™ rights.

Following recent raids at three condominiums here which had been used as scam calls centres, investigations into call centres will no longer be focused solely on criminals, but also the owners, JMB and security companies. All three parties might be be charged under Section 120(B) of the Penal Code for criminal conspiracy.

Particularly, the owners of premises are urged to conduct KYC (know your customer) before allowing anyone to rent or buy such premises. In other words, property owners can no longer collect a big, fat deposit and rent in advance, and then sit back and enjoy the money without bothering about their property.
