🐧 Penguins rule the ice. 🦭 Seals rule the sea. But the land? It belongs to a bug!

Meet the Antarctic midge, just a few millimetres long, yet crowned as Antarctica’s largest true land animal. Unlike penguins and seals that depend on the ocean, this tiny insect spends its entire life on land, surviving in ways that sound almost impossible.

Its frozen larval stage, short adult lifespan, and extreme resilience make it one of the most remarkable survivors on Earth.

🌱 “Antarctica has flowers? YES.”

❄️ We often picture Antarctica as a land of ice and snow, but it’s also home to two native flowering plants: the Antarctic pearlwort and Antarctic hair grass.

Despite the freezing temperatures, strong winds and harsh conditions, these tiny survivors have found clever ways to grow and thrive. 🌿

🌙 Imagine living in a place where the sun doesn’t rise for months. In Antarctica, this is a real phenomenon known as polar night, when parts of the continent experience prolonged darkness during winter. But how does it happen, and what happens when the sun finally returns? 🌅
