Buying a house under joint name ≠ your wife automatically own it when you passes away.

💥 Many couples think:

“We bought the house together and are paying the loan together. If my partner passes away, of course the house will be mine.”

❌ Completely wrong!
In Malaysia, the reality is much harsher than most people realise.

Imagine this 👇
You and your spouse buy a house together, pay mortgage loans with your hard earned money together..

One day, your partner suddenly passes away…
You continue paying the loan faithfully 💸

But when you finally finish paying it off — you find out the house is not actually yours.

According to the Distribution Act 1958,
📜 If there’s no will, when your spouse passes away, their half of the property will be distributed like this:
🔹 50% goes to the children
🔹 25% goes to your late spouse’s parents (your in-laws)
🔹 25% goes to you

Sounds okay? Not really…

Here’s where things get complicated —
If your in-laws also don’t have a will, their 25% share can be passed down to your brothers/sisters-in-law…

Now the house becomes:
➡️ Owned by multiple family members
➡️ To sell, every single one must agree & sign
➡️ If even one disagrees — you’re stuck

The house becomes a shared asset,
and your love story turns into a shared dispute. 💔

So don’t just focus on buying a house together.
The real protection lies in planning who inherits it.

✅ Write a will
✅ Do proper estate planning

Only then can you truly protect the portion you’ve worked so hard to pay for.

Don’t let the day come when — you’ve finished paying off the loan, but the house ends up belonging to someone else.
