Obi did not leave ADC out of fear of a direct primary election, as many people assume.
The reality is that David Mark and Atiku have reportedly agreed to announce Atiku as a consensus candidate at the last minute, after which they would persuade Obi by all possible meansnto accept the position of Vice Presidential candidate.
It should also be noted that if the process eventually proceeds to a primary election, Atiku dollarize the process, given that many of the stakeholders are driven by monetary interests, and he has already settled most of them.
Obi’s decision to leave ADC stems from the fact that the party is already in disarray, and time is limited. To ensure his name appears on the ballot and to avoid any complications under the Electoral Act, he had to exit promptly, especially in light of indications from the Supreme Court suggesting that ADC could be weakened by being referred back to the Federal High Court.
Furthermore, many of us are not supporting Obi because he is Igbo, far from it. We support him because, in our view, he represents the lesser evil.
