IGP OLATUNJI RILWAN DISU DIRECTS COMMENCEMENT OF TRAINING FOR 50,000 NEWLY RECRUITED POLICE CONSTABLES

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Isyaku Mohammed, in charge of the Department of Training and Development, to commence arrangements for the training of the 50,000 newly recruited Police Constables.

In line with the directive, all successful candidates are advised to commence checking the Police recruitment portal from Monday, 14th September 2026, for information regarding their allocated training institution and the date of resumption for training.

Successful candidates are expected to report to their respective designated Police Colleges and other approved training institutions from Tuesday, 15th September 2026, and must complete their reporting not later than Monday, 21st September 2026, which is the deadline for reporting.

The Inspector-General of Police further directed the Department of Training and Development to ensure that the training exercise is conducted in accordance with approved standards, with emphasis on discipline, professionalism, integrity, human rights and effective policing.

The Inspector-General of Police also expressed his appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his dedication and continued support towards tackling insecurity and strengthening the security architecture of the country.

The Nigeria Police Force therefore urges all successful candidates to regularly check the official recruitment portal and follow all instructions concerning their training allocation and reporting.

Speaking during a press conference in Abuja, the Police Boss stressed that indiscriminate recording of officers while on duty distracts personnel and demoralizes officers serving in high-risk environments.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu said that while he was Rivers State Commissioner of Police, a criminal known as 2Baba and his gang allegedly killed a Divisional Police Officer, dismembered his body, and shared images of it on social media.
The gang then fled into a forest. Based on police intelligence, the Nigerian Air Force attacked their hideout, killing five gang members, while 2Baba escaped. Police later raided another hideout and killed 2Baba and other members of his gang.

Disu said 2Baba and his gang fled into a forest in Rivers after that. He said police gathered intelligence on their location and gave it to the Air Force.

In Disu's words: "When I was the commissioner of police in Rivers, a particular Divisional Police Officer was killed by a criminal known as 2Baba. He killed the policeman, they cut him to pieces and they spread his body all over. They showed him on social media and they ran into the thickest part of the bush"

THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE PRESENTS ₦2.32BN WELFARE BENEFITS TO FAMILIES OF FALLEN POLICE OFFICERS

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on Thursday, 3rd September 2026, presented cheques totalling ₦2,317,177,094.00 to 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased Police Officers under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

The beneficiaries comprise families of Police Officers who died in service and are covered under the 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 insurance policy years. The payments also include outstanding balances recovered from insurance companies following earlier partial settlements.

Speaking at the presentation, the IGP described the exercise as more than the disbursement of financial benefits, noting that it represents the institutional responsibility owed to families of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to Nigeria. He stressed that while no financial benefit can replace a lost loved one, the payments provide practical support and reaffirm the Force’s commitment to their families.

The IGP noted that Police personnel continue to operate in a highly challenging security environment, with officers making significant sacrifices in the line of duty across the country. He assured the families of fallen officers that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to recognising their sacrifices and exploring legitimate avenues of support for their welfare and that of their dependants.

Reaffirming welfare as a cardinal priority of his administration, IGP Disu stated that the Force will continue to pursue initiatives aimed at improving personnel welfare, working conditions, healthcare, accommodation and other legitimate benefits due to serving personnel and their families. He further directed the Force Insurance Unit to intensify sensitisation across Commands and Formations to ensure that officers and their families are adequately informed about their insurance benefits and the processes for accessing them.

The Force Insurance Officer, ACP Lydia Ameh, appreciated the IGP for his support and leadership in prioritising the resolution of outstanding insurance claims and improving access to benefits for Police personnel and their families. She noted that the progress recorded by the Force Insurance Unit in recovering pending entitlements and strengthening claims administration reflects the importance attached to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their legitimate benefits. She reaffirmed the Unit’s commitment to improving the efficiency of the insurance process, intensifying awareness among personnel and safeguarding the interests of Police families.

The IGP also commended the Force’s insurance partners for their cooperation and urged them to ensure prompt settlement of legitimate claims, noting that timely insurance payments can serve as a vital lifeline to families that have lost their breadwinners.

The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to the welfare, dignity and wellbeing of its personnel and their families, while ensuring that the sacrifices of officers who gave their lives in service to the nation are never forgotten.

NIGERIA POLICE FORCE HOLDS MEMORIAL SERVICE IN HONOUR OF 10 FALLEN SIS OFFICERS KILLED IN KEBBI OPERATION

The Nigeria Police Force today, 24th August, 2026, held a memorial service at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, in honour of ten gallant officers of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) who lost their lives in the line of duty during an encounter with suspected bandits along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area, Kebbi State, on 10th August, 2026.

The service featured prayers in honour of the fallen officers, as senior Police officers, colleagues and families of the deceased gathered to pay tribute to their courage, service and sacrifice.

The officers were among personnel who engaged a heavily armed group of bandits moving between Zamfara and Kebbi States. The encounter resulted in significant losses to the attackers, while the Police personnel fought with courage and determination in defence of lives and national security.

In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, described the fallen officers as gallant personnel who paid the supreme price while serving, protecting and defending lives and property. He extended the deepest condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to their families, assuring them that the Force would continue to support them and ensure that the sacrifices of their loved ones are never forgotten.

The IGP declared that the Force would not be intimidated or relent in the fight against banditry, terrorism and other forms of violent criminality. He stressed that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes would not be allowed to be in vain, assuring that efforts would continue to identify, pursue and bring to justice those responsible for attacks on Police personnel and innocent citizens.

In his remarks, CP Abayomi Shogunle, Commander, Special Intervention Squad, noted that subsequent operational assessments indicated that the losses inflicted on the attackers were significantly higher than the initial assessment. He stressed that the morale of the SIS must not be allowed to waver, urging personnel to continue the fight with the same courage and determination demonstrated by their fallen colleagues.

On behalf of the bereaved families, Grace Bala Buba, daughter of one of the fallen officers, expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force for honouring their loved ones and for the support extended to the families.

The IGP, while paying tribute to the fallen officers, urged Police personnel to remember them with pride and gratitude and to draw renewed determination from their sacrifice. He reaffirmed the resolve of the Nigeria Police Force to sustain operations against banditry, terrorism and other forms of violent criminality, strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders, and pursue all persons responsible for attacks on Police personnel and innocent citizens, ensuring that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes are not in vain.

AN APPEAL TO HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR, TO ASSENT TO THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE PENSION BILL

Your Excellency, Mr. President,

We respectfully appeal to you, as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to graciously assent to the Nigeria Police Force Pension Bill that has been passed by the National Assembly.

Our police officers dedicate the most productive years of their lives to protecting Nigerians, maintaining law and order, confronting criminals, and putting their own lives at risk in the service of our nation. It is therefore only fair that the nation they served should also protect their dignity and welfare when they retire.

The present pension arrangement has caused serious hardship for many retired police officers, with complaints about inadequate retirement benefits and financial difficulties after decades of service. Recent appeals by retired officers have specifically called for the Police to exit the Contributory Pension Scheme and have urged Your Excellency to give the Bill presidential assent.

Mr. President, this is not a request for privilege. It is a request for justice, fairness and dignity.

A police officer who spends 30 or 35 years protecting the lives and property of Nigerians should not retire into poverty, uncertainty and neglect. A better pension arrangement will also give serving officers greater confidence that their years of sacrifice will be properly rewarded.

We therefore humbly plead with Your Excellency to use your constitutional authority to sign the Nigeria Police Force Pension Bill into law without further delay.

Mr. President, this decision will not only improve the lives of thousands of serving and retired police officers and their families; it will also strengthen the morale of the Nigeria Police Force and demonstrate that Nigeria values those who risk everything to protect the nation.

Mr. President, please remember the policeman who stood between danger and the Nigerian people. Please remember the retired officer who gave his youth to this country. Give them the dignity they deserve.

We respectfully appeal to Your Excellency: ASSENT TO THE NIGERIA POLICE PENSION BILL.

May history record your administration as the one that restored dignity, justice and hope to Nigeria's police officers and retirees.
