In a small village, there lived a man named Chike who finally saved enough money to build his dream house. The whole community was excited for him. They gathered the day construction began, watching as the workers marked the land and prepared to dig.
But Chike grew impatient.

Why are you digging so deep? he asked the builder. I don’t need all this delay. Let’s start raising the walls, I want people to see my house.

The builder, an old man with years of experience, shook his head.
A house is not seen from the walls, he said calmly. It stands from the foundation.
Chike didn’t listen. He reduced the depth to save time and money. Within weeks, the house stood tall and beautiful. People praised him. He felt proud.

Then the rainy season came.
The ground softened. Cracks began to appear on the walls. One night, after a heavy storm, a loud sound woke the village. Chike’s house had collapsed.

Heartbroken, he sat on the ruins. The same builder came and stood beside him.
I told you, the old man said gently, what you build on the surface can deceive the eyes, but what is underneath carries the weight.

They were not rich in gold or silver, but they were rich in unity.

One day, everything changed.

Deep beneath the soil of Assa, vast rivers of oil and gas were discovered. News spread quickly, and soon the small community became known far and wide. Wealth began to flow into the land, and many feared that with it would come greed, division, and the loss of everything that once made Assa whole.

But Assa was not like other places.

Assa had a king, a wise and humble ruler who loved his people more than power. He did not see the oil and gas as his personal treasure, but as a blessing meant for all. He called the elders, the youth, and the women together and said:

This wealth beneath our feet is not just for today. It is for our children, and their children. If we let it divide us, we lose everything. But if we use it with wisdom, Assa will shine for generations.

Under his leadership, schools were built where children could learn and dream beyond the horizon. Hospitals rose where the sick were treated with dignity. Roads connected villages, bringing people closer together instead of pulling them apart. Jobs were created, not just for a few, but for many.

The king made a law: no one in Assa should sleep hungry while oil flowed beneath their land.

And so, something rare happened.

Instead of fighting over wealth, the people of Assa grew stronger together. Farmers still farmed, but now with better tools. Traders still traded, but with wider reach. The young no longer dreamed of leaving, they dreamed of building.

Visitors came from distant lands, not just to see the oil, but to understand the unity.

Chinedu built houses for everyone… except himself.

From morning till night, his hands mixed cement, lifted blocks, and raised roofs over other people’s heads. When the widows cried, he built. When families had nothing, he built. When the rain destroyed homes, he rebuilt.

They called him a good man.

But when the work was done and the village slept safely inside the houses he made, Chinedu had nowhere to go.

Some nights, he slept under a tree.
Some nights, inside an unfinished building.
When it rained, he curled up in the cold—while the same rain couldn’t touch the people he helped.

Still, he kept building.

Until one evening, after finishing yet another house, he sat alone and asked himself a simple question:

Where do I sleep tonight?

The answer broke him.

He looked at the village, full of strong, beautiful homes, and realized none of them were his.

Tears filled his eyes as he whispered,
I gave them everything… and forgot myself.

The next morning, when people called him for new work, he stopped and said:

You can push your own brother away, silence him, and send him far from your life just so you and your friends can feel comfortable and undisturbed. For a moment, it may seem like peace has finally come, like no one will challenge your voice anymore.

But what you forget is this: the place you send him to, even with all its hardship and suffering, may become a place of growth and betterment for him. What you meant for rejection could become his elevation.

Life has a way of turning pain into purpose.

So remember, no one is perfect, and no one is entirely good. We all make mistakes. The same person you push away today might rise stronger tomorrow, while you are left to reflect on the choices you made.

In a small village, two friends, Daniel and Musa, decided it was time to build their own homes.
Daniel was patient. Before laying a single brick, he spent weeks studying the land. He dug deep into the soil until he reached solid rock. People laughed at him.
Why waste time digging so deep? they mocked.

Daniel simply smiled and said, A strong house begins where nobody sees.
Musa, on the other hand, wanted quick results. He chose a smooth, soft piece of land near the river. The ground was easy to work on, and within a short time, his house stood tall and beautiful.

Look at mine! Musa boasted. Finished in half the time.
Seasons passed. One day, heavy rains came. The river swelled, winds roared, and floods rushed through the village.

Musa watched in fear as the soft ground beneath his house began to weaken. Cracks formed. Within hours, his house collapsed into the rushing water.

Nigeria has failed many of us. We cannot live peacefully in our own country, and we cannot travel as freely as citizens of many other nations. Many Nigerians in Asia are suffering because they are being asked to leave, even when they possess valid documents. The moment people learn that you are Nigerian, your documents are often viewed with suspicion simply because of your nationality.

Our people are not safe at home. Our schools, workplaces, and communities are plagued by insecurity. What are we supposed to do? Our government seems more concerned with elections than with the welfare and safety of its citizens. It is deeply disappointing.

Every day, Nigerians in Asia face hardship, and some lose their lives due to a lack of hope and opportunities. Nigerians deserve security, dignity, equal treatment, and a better future, both at home and abroad.
Many citizens are also concerned about the state of the media. There is a growing perception that parts of the news media no longer operate independently, but instead promote narratives that serve political interests rather than the public good. When the media fails to hold leaders accountable and provide balanced reporting, public trust is weakened, and the voices of ordinary citizens are marginalized
