God tested Abraham by asking him to offer Isaac, the son he loved and the son through whom God had promised to establish His covenant. Abraham obeyed and journeyed to Moriah with Isaac, trusting God even when he could not understand what lay ahead.

Just as Abraham was about to sacrifice his son, the Angel of the LORD called out to stop him. Abraham then saw a ram caught in a thicket and offered it instead of Isaac. He called the place “The-LORD-Will-Provide.”

Abimelech recognised that God was with Abraham and asked him to swear that he would deal honestly with him and his descendants. When Abraham raised a dispute concerning a well seized by Abimelech’s servants, they addressed the matter and made a covenant at Beersheba.

Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs as a witness concerning the well. After Abimelech and Phichol departed, Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba and called on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God.

After Isaac was weaned, Sarah saw Ishmael scoffing and asked Abraham to send Hagar and her son away. Abraham was deeply distressed, but God told him not to be afraid and promised that Ishmael would also become a nation.

In the wilderness, Hagar and Ishmael ran out of water. But God heard Ishmael’s cry, opened Hagar’s eyes to a well, and was with the boy as he grew.

God fulfilled His promise to Abraham and Sarah. At the appointed time, Sarah conceived and gave birth to Isaac, just as God had spoken.

Abraham named his son Isaac and obeyed God’s command to circumcise him. Sarah rejoiced because what once seemed impossible had become reality.

Abraham journeyed to Gerar and, out of fear, told Abimelech that Sarah was his sister. Abimelech took Sarah, but God came to him in a dream and warned him that Sarah was Abraham’s wife.

Abimelech returned Sarah to Abraham, gave him gifts, and Abraham prayed for him. God then healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants.

After escaping S***m, Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in a mountain cave. What followed was a deeply troubling account that Genesis records without hiding the consequences of what happened.

The passage ends with the birth of Moab and Ben-Ammi, whose descendants became the Moabites and Ammonites.

The sun rose as Lot entered Zoar. Then the LORD rained brimstone and fire from heaven, and S***m, Gomorrah, the plain, and everything growing on the ground were destroyed.

But as Lot and his family fled, Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt. Meanwhile, Abraham looked toward the destroyed cities and saw smoke rising like the smoke of a furnace.

The angels warned Lot that destruction was coming and told him to bring his family out of S***m. But even after the warning, Lot lingered.

Because the LORD was merciful to him, the angels took Lot, his wife, and his daughters by the hand and brought them out of the city. They were told to escape and not look back.

TWO ANGELS IN S***M

Lot welcomed two mysterious visitors into his home, unaware of the danger that would soon surround him. Before the night was over, the men of S***m gathered at his door, and the situation became increasingly threatening.

But God’s protection was already at work.
The angels pulled Lot safely inside and struck the men at the door with blindness, showing that even in the midst of a deeply corrupt environment, God remained in control.

As the visitors prepared to leave, the LORD revealed to Abraham what was about to happen to S***m and Gomorrah. Abraham stood before the LORD and pleaded for the righteous, asking whether the Judge of all the earth would do what is right.

He continued asking about fewer and fewer righteous people, from fifty down to ten. Each time, God said He would spare the city for their sake.
