EFFECT OF DIFFERENT FORMWORKS ON STRENGTH OF CONCRETE.

I like to share recent experience on the above subject matter.

Our Company is involved in mini housing estate.
We insisted that Marine boards be used for formwork of Structural elements.
Money was given to the contractor to purchase Marine boards as formwork material.
When the job commenced, Marine board could cover only some portions of connecting lintel beams and columns, while softwood was used later to complete the remaining portions of the lintel elements.
On 28 days after casting of the concrete elements.

All the concrete elements were subjected to non- destructive Schmidt tests.
Concrete cast with marine boards gave average readings of 28 Mpa.

While the concrete elements with soft wood gave the reading of 18Mpa.
Using the same concrete mix and batching principle.

Our findings showed that softwood absorbed much water from the green concrete before expiration of curing period.

While water proof surface on marine board assisted during curing period.

Where there is respect for human life, no one will take bribe to look the other way, building are to inspected for adhering to building code, strength of materials are known by structural and civil engineers. No one should risk their professional reputation for anything.
Here we are anyhow people, doing anyhow things. Mason/ bricklayers, architect or surveyor are not engineers.
