Lagos, & Nigeria's economy still runs on infrastructure from the 70s.
But the city has expanded far beyond that capacity.

More people, more businesses, more demand.
But not enough integrated infrastructure to match it.

So...
Commute times increase ➡️ Productivity drops ➡️ Cost of living rises ➡️ Businesses lose efficiency

And over time… Economic development slows down.

Urban growth in Nigeria has followed a “build first, connect later” model, leading to disconnected & car-dependent development.

The result:
🚩 Long commutes + traffic
🚩 High transport costs
🚩 Poor quality of life

But cities that thrive prioritize people, access to opportunities & quality of life. They build connected transportation infrastructure.

That’s the true transport-led (or transit-oriented) development

Affordable housing is no excuse for breaking rules. What we need is to rewrite them with reality in mind.

Income-responsive planning keeps safety intact while making space for more people to belong legally in the city.

Access matters, but so do standards.
Cities work best when rules serve people, not the other way around.
