The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has taken its 2027 campaign machinery to the heart of Benue South, with a major campaign flag-off held in Otukpo on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
The event, held at St. Andrew’s Primary School, Otukpo, brought together top PDP leaders, political aspirants, party faithful and supporters from across Benue South.
At the centre of the gathering was Senator Patrick Abba Moro, as the PDP formally commenced his campaign activities in the Benue South Senatorial District.
The atmosphere in Otukpo was charged as supporters arrived for the much-anticipated political gathering, displaying party colours, waving flags and chanting in support of the PDP.
Among the prominent personalities at the event was the PDP governorship candidate for Benue State, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN.
Aondoakaa emerged as the PDP’s consensus governorship candidate earlier in 2026 after other aspirants stepped down and endorsed him. Former Governor Samuel Ortom and Senator Abba Moro were among the key party figures involved in the consensus process.
Also present was former Benue State Governor and PDP leader, Samuel Ortom, whose presence further underscored the importance the party attached to the Benue South campaign.
The PDP leadership used the occasion to demonstrate what it described as party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Another major moment came when the state PDP chairman, Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji, presented the party's House of Representatives flag for the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency to Hon. Amb. Lilian Elakeche Adoyi Ofiebor, alongside other candidates.
For Lilian Ofiebor, the presentation marked another significant step in her political journey as she joined other PDP candidates in the campaign structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
The gathering also provided a platform for party leaders to speak directly to supporters about the road ahead.
Senator Abba Moro, who is seeking another term representing Benue South in the Senate, called on party members and supporters to remain committed to the PDP.
The senator also spoke about the broader political direction ahead of 2027, including remarks concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging supporters to consider returning him to office.
For many of those gathered, however, the bigger message of the day was clear: the PDP is positioning itself for a major political contest in Benue State and across Benue South.
The appearance of Aondoakaa, Ortom, Abba Moro and other major party figures created a strong display of political coordination as the party began taking its campaign message directly to the grassroots.
Benue South remains one of the most politically significant zones in the state, with Otukpo serving as a major political centre.
And with 2027 fast approaching, Saturday's gathering may prove to be one of the early indicators of how the political battle for Benue South will unfold.
For the PDP, the message from Otukpo was one of mobilisation, unity and preparation.
For the various candidates, it was an opportunity to formally step into the campaign season.
And for the people of Benue South, the political contest has only just begun.
