*Day 3 at NIESV 55th Annual Conference.*
On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the 55th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors & Valuers (NIESV) continued with a series of insightful sessions that underscored the conference theme: *"Transform, Invest, Thrive: Optimising Real Estate Asset Finance and Taxation."*
The day commenced with a compelling lead paper by ESV Emmanuel Mark, Ph.D., FRICS, SR/WA, FMP, the 2nd Vice President of NIESV, who delved into strategies for optimizing real estate asset finance and taxation. This was followed by a dynamic panel session featuring Mike Ango, Acting Chairman of FCT IRS, alongside panelists Muyiwa Ogunmilade and Jumoke Akinwunmi, moderated by ESV Gbenga Olaniyan. Their discussion focused on tax efficiency and revenue generation strategies within real estate finance, development, and management.
International perspectives were brought to the fore by Jonathan Kohler, CEO of Landsdowne, South Africa, who explored emerging trends and innovations transforming Africa's real estate industry. Mr. Hakeem Ogunniran, Chairman of Eximia Realty Company Limited, provided insights into the regulatory frameworks of real estate and financial markets, emphasizing circular economy, green financing, and sustainability in Nigeria.
Dr. Roland Igbinoba, Founder of Pison Housing Company and PropCrowdy Ltd., and President of PropTech Nigeria, highlighted the role of financial and technological innovations in real estate negotiation, development, and resale, emphasizing the integration of PropTech solutions.
The afternoon sessions featured a Women Wing Session led by Dr. (Mrs) Igho Fayomi, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design & Management at Lead City University, Ibadan. She addressed the challenges and opportunities for women navigating the male-dominated real estate finance industry. An interactive session for probationers and students was conducted by ESV Bature Ali Muhammad, FNIVS, the 1st Vice President of NIESV, outlining the pathway to membership within the institution.
Further discussions included the Head of Practice & ESVARBON Session, anchored by ESV Asiwaju Dosu Fatokun (PPNIVS), Chairman of ESVARBON, and roundtable discussions with affiliate bodies such as the African Real Estate Society (AFRES) and the International Rights of Way Association (IRWA), fostering collaborative dialogues on industry best practices.
Day 3 of the conference successfully brought together thought leaders and professionals to explore innovative solutions and sustainable practices in the real estate sector, reinforcing NIESV's commitment to advancing the profession in Nigeria and beyond.
