EXERCISE: A POWERFUL FORM OF PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
What if I told you that one of the most effective ways to protect your health is free, simple, and within your reach?
Regular physical exercise is one of the most powerful tools in preventive medicine.
It helps prevent and control several non-communicable diseases, including:
❤️ Hypertension: Regular exercise helps lower blood pressure and improves cardiovascular health.
🩸 Diabetes: Physical activity improves insulin sensitivity and helps regulate blood glucose levels.
⚖️ Obesity: Exercise helps burn calories, maintain a healthy weight, and reduce excess body fat.
❤️ Heart disease: Regular physical activity reduces the risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular complications.
🧠 Stroke: Exercise helps control blood pressure and reduces several risk factors for stroke.
🦴 Osteoporosis: Weight-bearing exercises help strengthen bones and reduce the risk of fractures.
😊 Mental health: Exercise reduces stress, improves mood, promotes better sleep, and may help relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression.
HOW MUCH EXERCISE DO YOU NEED?
The World Health Organization recommends that adults engage in:
At least 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise weekly.
Muscle-strengthening activities at least twice a week.
Walking, cycling, swimming, dancing, and jogging are all excellent options.
You don't have to start with strenuous exercise. Even a 30-minute brisk walk five days a week can make a significant difference.
MY MEDICAL ADVICE
Don't wait until you develop hypertension, diabetes, or heart disease before you start exercising.
Prevention is better than cure. Make physical activity a part of your daily routine.
Remember, every step you take today is an investment in your health tomorrow.
Your health is your greatest wealth. Protect it through regular exercise.
