WHY DID I VENTURE INTO REAL ESTATE?
"I ventured into real estate investment and development to rewrite a family pattern where many opportunities to acquire the entire landed properties in places popularly known today as Omole Estate Phase 1, Gemade Estate inside Gowon Estate Egbeda, Ogudu GRA, and Magodo were all lost to lack of interest in real estate investment by my late father" — Adedapo Olowofela, MD/CEO, Goluxury Estates

"Actually, I didn't judge him for not buying into real estate when he had the various second and third or even fourth chances thrown at him. Interestingly, my late dad was a man of many resurfaced opportunities in this regards, but non was converted, owing to the fact that he was born in the village and grew up seeing 90% Farmland and 10% habitable homes around, until he landed a job in the city in Lagos Island in the early 70s."

"According to his explanation to me shortly before he passed on, he said the population in Lagos, and in Nigeria generally back then was not much. And seeing an expanse of uninhabited land or forest in those places mentioned above in those days was never new to him, even though these lands were offered to him by the various leaders of these communities at different times, he never developed interests in any of them because, to him, who would live there? But guess what, a few years later there was a rural-urban migration to Lagos."

"When I graduated from the University of Lagos, I got employed as an Executive Assistant to the managing director of a retail automobile dealer on Mobolaji Bank-Anthony way in Ikeja. It was there I came in contact with documents which showed who owns upto 40% of the land on that Mobolaji Bank-Anthony way Ikeja, and the family she belonged to (the late wife of a prominent King in Ijebu land) —the Tejuosho family —they are the landlord to some of the business owners on that axis, aside their other properties in Ojuelegba, Yaba and Eko Idumota Lagos. They usually don't sell their lands, instead they lease them out. My former employer was one of their various tenants."

"At some points I would reflect on why my father couldn't see what the late Olori Abisoye could see in almost the same era, acquiring land here and there, even though she was acclaimed to be a trader and a travelers per excellence. To my amazement, the land my former employer rented from the family was once a dump site and a slope with canal —meaning, she even bought seemingly very unimaginable spots to her credit back then, even before government standard road infrastructure. How many of you reading this will buy such places in crude form? Let me tell you, it is only those who can easily identify a goldmine that will throw money at unattractive lands."

Do you now see why I take land acquisition very seriously? That's my story. Now, let me ask you, what will be your own explanation to your children in the near future, on why you missed all the opportunities being thrown at you today?
