Back in the year 2005, myself, agent, and my client went to a particular area in Sango ota, Ogun state, this area shares the same boundary with Lagos state
We met with the family that owned a particular expanse of landed property in this area, we negotiated for a plot of land and we eventually paid #200,000. The land was located along the major road.
2 months thereafter, we decided to go check the land, but unfortunately, another person has taken possession of the land, hence, we quickly went back to the family that owned the land.
The family members told us that they were the ones who sold the land to the new owner
That day, the family allocated another plot of land to us. Immediately we went to buy 2 trucks of sand and offloaded it on the land in order to take possession.
That was how we avoid losing the money for the land
The lesson I want you to learn from this experience is that, you must ensure you take possession of your property immediately after making payment
How do you take possession of your property?
Here are the steps I advise you to take
# Get receipt from the owner of the property after making payment
# Get a surveyor to survey the land and get it registered with the government.
# Clear the entire size of the land
# Ensure you put a fence (half or full) round the property, or
put a structure on the land, this can be a pre finished house, shop(s), or a house foundation
# And lots more
