Earlier today i had the opportunity to witness the afforestation efforts of the Ogun State Government, and it reinforced an important thought for me: the future of real estate development must go beyond buildings, it must include the environment in which those buildings exist.

As cities expand and new communities emerge, real estate development can create challenges such as the loss of vegetation, increased urban heat, flooding, carbon emissions and pressure on natural resources.

But it doesn’t have to be a choice between economic development and environmental sustainability.

The afforestation initiative I witnessed demonstrates how we can begin to create a different model, one where new developments are accompanied by the deliberate restoration and preservation of green spaces.
