Spanning approximately 5,000 hectares, the airport is strategically situated between the Lagos-Ibadan and Sagamu-Benin expressways, enhancing its accessibility and positioning it as a critical logistics hub in West Africa . Key features include a 4-kilometer-long, 60-meter-wide runway—the longest in Nigeria—designed to accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 . The facility also boasts a five-story control tower, extensive cargo aprons, a passenger terminal, taxiways, and advanced navigation systems .
👉 Economic and Agricultural Impact

It is integrated with a Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAPZ), supported by the African Development Bank and the Federal Government, aiming to boost the export of agricultural and non-agricultural goods . The project is expected to create approximately 25,000 jobs, stimulating economic growth and enhancing the state’s revenue generation .
👉 Operational Readiness and Future Prospects
As of May 2025, the airport has reached 97% completion, with final validations underway by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) . It has received approval to handle unscheduled chartered flights, with scheduled commercial operations anticipated to commence soon . The facility is also set to operate under Nigeria’s first advanced Operating Permit, adhering to ENCAS 2023 standards, which surpass conventional Aerodrome Certification requirements .
The Ogun Agro-Cargo Airport is poised to significantly enhance Nigeria’s aviation and agricultural sectors, providing a vital link for the export of non-perishable goods and serving as a catalyst for regional development.
