Let me tell you something that may sting a little but it could save your future:
Don’t grow old in another man’s house.
I know rent is convenient. I know it's easy to move into a fine apartment, pay monthly, and call it "peace of mind." But there’s a truth we must face as men: comfort today can become regret tomorrow.
If you want to sleep well in your 50s, start laying the bricks in your 30s.
I’m not saying go buy five plots in VGC Island or launch a skyscraper next week inshallah ikoyi. No. I’m saying: be wise, be intentional, and think long-term.
Start with a plot but plan for 2. Target developing areas, places that may not look like much now but are silently preparing to blow up.
Buy the land, sit on it like an eagle, and let time do its thing. When the value appreciates, sell one, build with another. That’s chess, not checkers.
Or start small. Buy a plot and begin gradually. Cement bag by cement bag. Block by block. Maybe foundation this year, decking next. It’s not about speed; it’s about strategy.
But please, I beg you as a brother:
Don’t make the mistake many of our fathers made.
Living on rent until retirement, and then facing the sad reality of not having a roof they can truly call their own.
You are not them. You are the new blueprint.
You don’t need to start big, but you must start early.
👉 And no, don’t use your business capital to build. That’s not wisdom. That’s financial su***de.
👉 Plan for it. Save for it. Let it be part of your goals.
👉 Tell yourself, “This hustle is also funding my building project.”
Make it a silent mission. You don’t need to announce it to the world. Just get to work.
Because one day, when the rent hikes again, or when you’re asked to move out after years of loyalty, you’ll realize that owning your own space is more than shelter, it’s freedom!
